Minelab of America is a manufacturer of some of the best hand-held metal detection technology in the world. Their presence spans the globe: Australia, Europe, Middle East, Asia and the Americas. Recently, they relocated the American corporate offices to Aurora, IL, in which Desa Design Studio was selected to design the interiors of their new space.
When approaching the design for a commercial project, we feel it’s imperative to make a space functional and aesthetically pleasing. In addition, we want to create an experience which reflects a fun work environment, while making sure it aligns with the corporate branding.
Since Minelab manufactures various types of metal detectors for all types of terrain, we incorporated three-dimensional feature walls by using applied millwork to represent mountainous terrains; incorporated a topography map along the private offices and conference rooms to add privacy; and incorporated faux plant material to give that outdoorsy feel.
There are four colors that represent Minelabs core values. These colors can be seen throughout the repetition in carpet tile planks in the open office area, in fabric selection for the accent pillows and artwork in private offices. The colorful wallcovering in the breakroom makes quite the statement to help tie in both the terrain theme and core colors.
