RESIDENTIAL RENOVATION – LIVING ROOM / DINING ROOM
Our client’s were young entrepreneurs that had recently started a family and purchased a home in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago. Therefore, the space needed to be child friendly from a functional standpoint. They wanted a living space that didn’t feel so formal, but somewhere they could entertain guests or play with their son. During our initial site visit with the clients, as with many homes in Chicago, we noticed the main living spaces were fairly narrow. Space planning this area was a key element in the overall success of the design.
3D Space Planning – Schematic Design Phase
Our clients had previously purchased a harvest table that was too large for the Dining Area near the Kitchen, so they placed it in the front area to form a Dining Room/Living Room combo. Based on the scale of their existing furnishings, during our space planning phase, we decided to swap the Dining and Living areas to make the overall front rooms feel larger. We reused their dining set and light fixture, a couple of leather club chairs, and a vintage jute box (incase your are wondering…yes it still works, lights and all!). Take a look at the 3D space planning models below:
Digital Design Board – Schematic Design Phase
Based on the inspirational images provided by the client and through discussions of likes/dislikes, our team comprised a Design Direction Board to ensure we were heading in the right direction prior to making any selections:
Upon the client’s approval, we moved onto the selections…move over neutrals, HELLLOOO bold color palette. These rooms are sure to make a statement!
